Chihuahua

The Chihuahua is one of the smallest and most popular dog breeds we have today. It is also the oldest breed in the Americas. There are debates about the Chihuahua's ancestry and some scientists believe that this breed descended from the wild Fennec Fox. The breed name is from the town of Chihuahua in Mexico.

Description:
Chihuahuas have two main types, the short haired type and the long haired type. There is also a second varietal split as well, having to do with the shape of the head. The two types are "apple head" and "deer head". Of all the dog breeds, the Chihuahua also has the largest brain size relative to its body size.

Temperament:
The Chihuahua is arguably the most popular lap dog around. They are seen often with celebrities and are even featured in movies. They are a favorite because of their demeanor. They are greatly loyal to their guardian and often times are even fiercely over-protective. They are great family dogs but not advisable to families with very young children as the greatly prone to injuries.
