Persian Cat

It is said that Persians were smuggled out of Persia (modern day Iran) during the 17th century by European explorers together with spices. Persians are one of the oldest known breeds, dating back to as far as the 1600s. For centuries they draped themselves in courts of royalty, in England, France and Italy. They were the favorites of England’s Queen Victoria and Florence Nightingale. In the 1900s, persian cats were exported around the world and since then they became the most popular cat in the world.

One of The persian cat’s most distinguishable trait is their unique brachycephalic head, which means that their skulls or noses are shorter for their species. They have a short pushed in face which the eyebrows, nose and chin are all lined up. They also have short, solid-boned legs. Since they have short heavy boned legs, they prefer to stay close to the ground unlike other long legged or light boned cats.

The Persian cat's most popular trait is its long luxurious coat which is the longest of any cat breed. It is created by a combination of a long under coat and top coat. Some people love them because of their couch potato mindset. They just love to lounge around the house. They are also friendly when it comes to being around other animals. They are known to get along with other cats and dogs.

The Persian cat is classified as an indoor cat and it would be best to keep them indoors due to their lack of street smarts and to avoid ruining their coat. Since they are indoor cats, their average lifespan is around 10-15 years. Way better than outdoor cats which have an average lifespan of about 4-5 years. Their long lifespan, relaxed nature and friendliness to other animals make them perfect family cats.
